Katharine Haselden Obituary

Katharine Edwards Haselden, 80, of Columbia, SC passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025. Born in Greenville, SC, on June 1, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wellington and Katharine Bush Edwards. Surviving are her husband of over 57 years, Edward Wheeler Haselden, Jr.; sons, William Mace Haselden (Lane) and Thomas Foster Haselden (Loucinda), both of Columbia; and daughter, Audrey Haselden Walter, of Danville, KY. Also surviving, affectionately known to her grandchildren as "Gaggy" or GrandMaMa, are Sarah Haselden, John and Reynolds Haselden, of Columbia and Lila, Annie Capers and Townsend Walter, of Danville, KY. Additionally, she is survived by a sister-in-law, Anne Haselden Foster, of Shelburne, VT, and nieces, Isabel Berbert, Vesta Ferris and Murray Thompson. Settling in Columbia, she continued her career as a mom and disciplinarian – a job much sought after in her generation. She happily raised her children and watched them become their own persons. When Edward retired, she enjoyed his presence, as they continued life together. Kitty loved her time with grandchildren, traveling, and the beach (especially when in the inlet creek). She was predeceased by her son, Edward Wheeler Haselden, III; and a sister-in-law, Min Murray Haselden Cheves. The service for Mrs. Haselden will be held at 1 o'clock, Thursday, October 9th, at St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. A reception will immediately follow at the home of William and Lane Haselden, 1648 Tanglewood Road, Columbia. Private burial in Elmwood Cemetery will precede the service. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Martin's-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 5220 Clemson Ave, Columbia, SC 29206; to Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens, 500 Wildlife Pkwy, Columbia, SC 29210; or to a charity of one's choice.

Earlier today

Kitty was one of a kind. She welcomed me into her home like I was one of her own for all of my childhood. She would make you laugh and gave the best advice (that usually kept Audrey and I out of trouble). I will miss her tremendously!
