John Baxter Obituary

John W. Baxter, 87, of Lexington, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2025. He was born on April 18, 1938. Mr. Baxter was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Jean Baxter. They married April 27, 1969 and celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary prior to her death on May 27, 2023. John was a truck driver by trade and drove for Recco of West Columbia, SC prior to his retirement. He then did some part time work for Penske Truck Rental. John was an avid NASCAR fan and could be found watching races every weekend. He also had an interest in local "turkey shoots" and frequently won prizes with his shooting skill. After the passing of his wife, John resided at Harbison Shores (memory care) where he thrived and was affectionately cared for by both staff and leaders who have expressed how much they'll miss him. Late in life, after a lengthy hospitalization, a loving family friend was able to share her faith with John. She led him through the sinner's prayer and John repented and gave his heart to the Lord in February of 2024. We have received much comfort in knowing that John & Phyllis are together again in heaven. "but God, being rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved)" ASV Ephesians 2:4-5 Graveside service and burial will be held Friday, July 25, 2025 at 11am at Celestial Memorial Gardens, 3111 Delree Street, West Columbia, SC 29170.
