Jacob Wessinger Obituary
Jacob Dwain Wessinger, 73, of Little Mountain, SC, died Friday, May 9th, 2025.
Born on July 18th, 1951, in Newberry County, South Carolina, to the late Jacob Leroy and Mildred Wessinger.
Dwain was employed by the South Carolina Department of Corrections from 1971 until 1996 where he served as a correctional officer and later as a Deputy Warden. In 1995, he and Dale opened Wessinger's Greenhouses which they owned and operated until 2013.
Upon retirement, he began his third career and favorite hobby, cattle farming, where he had over fifty head of cattle at any given time. His other hobbies included hunting and freshwater fishing.
He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he loved attending the service to hear the Spirit Driven band. He was also a member of the Newberry County Cattlemen's Association.
Dwain is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dale Frick Wessinger; his son and daughter-in-law, Brandon and Juel Wessinger; and his grandchildren, Sara and Jacob, all of Little Mountain, SC; his sisters, Elvia (Albert) Lindler and Faye Rickard, as well as his sister-in-law, Mary F. Wessinger, all of Chapin, SC; and his nephews and nieces; Steve Rickard, Wayne Lindler, Liesha Huffstetler, Charli Wessinger, Karen Davis, Gina Wessinger, and Sandra Dietrich.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Charles L. Wessinger, and his brother-in-law, Harold Edward Rickard.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Chapin, South Carolina, with a visitation immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
Honorary pallbearers will include JE Anderson, Gary Bouknight, James Bouknight, Wayne Cannon, Edward Epting, Wayne Lindler, Steve Rickard, Paul Shealy, Kenny "Buck" Stuck, and James Torrence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Bertha Kesler and Mike, Daphne, and India of Amedisys Hospice. Your sincere kindness and selflessness will never be forgotten.
