Henry English Obituary

Mr. Henry English, Sr. of Pine Plain Road, Gaston, South Carolina was born March 7, 1939, in Lexington County, South Carolina. He was the fourth of nine children born to the late Abram C. and Victoria Foster English. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Thursday, September 25, 2025. He received his early education in the public schools of Lexington County School District Two, graduating from Lakeview High School in 1958. While at Lakeview, he served in a number of clubs and organizations, most notably, the Drama Club where he often performed the leading role. He was an outstanding athlete, ran track, and lettered in football. He served honorably in the United States Air Force. After military service, he was employed with Colite Industries, BFG Industries, and Concept Unlimited in a career that spanned over fifty years. Henry was a member of the Greater Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in West Columbia, South Carolina where he received Christ as his Savior. He served the church as a member of the Trustee Board and its chairman. He was well known in the community with a kind heart of charity towards others. Henry had an exceptional gift of humor and comedy. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed hearty, lively conversations. He was gifted with a remarkable memory and well versed in community history. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Vernelle (the late Joe) Smith, Geneva (the late Willie) Robinson, and Matilda Porterfield; brothers, Rev. Abram C. English, Jr., Roosevelt English (the late Margaret), and Rev. Joseph English. Mr. Henry English, Sr. leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted wife of over 64 years, Mrs. Lenora Davis English of the home; daughters, Sheila English (the late Clyde) Holmes of Sanford, NC, and Rev. April English (Larry) Richardson of Catawba, SC; sons, Rev. Henry (Rev. Loretta) English, Jr. of Fort Mill, SC, and Michael English of the home; adopted daughter, Penny English of Norfolk, VA; sister, Cedelle (James T.) Gates of West Columbia, SC; brother, Melvin English of Gaston, SC; sisters-in-law, Rosemary B. English of Aiken, SC and Janis K. English of Gaston, SC; grandchildren; Faith Holmes (Richard) Coltharp, Lenorria Holmes; Telvin English, Trent English, and Simeon Richardson; seven great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loving friends who are grateful for his life and will miss him dearly.
