George Ridenour Obituary

Mr. George E. Ridenour, Jr., age 81, went home to be with the Lord on January 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family and a lifetime of cherished memories.

George was born on January 19, 1944, in Hagerstown, Maryland, the beloved son of the late George E. Ridenour, Sr. and Lillian Poe Ridenour. From an early age, he carried with him a deep sense of curiosity, loyalty, and love that would define his life.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Vietnam War veteran, a chapter of his life he carried with quiet strength and honor. After his military service, he worked faithfully in the security alarm business and later retired from Pepsi Bottling Company, where he spent many years as a dedicated and dependable truck driver.

His lifelong love of learning led him through schools in Maryland and South Carolina, including time at Columbia Bible College in Columbia, South Carolina. George had a curious mind and a deep appreciation for reading, history, and politics, and he loved sharing thoughtful conversations with those around him. He also found great joy in traveling, motorcycles, and cooking, often bringing family together around a meal or a story.

At the center of George's world was his devoted wife of 60 years, Judith A. Ridenour. Their marriage was a beautiful example of commitment, friendship, laughter, and enduring love. Together they built a family that was George's greatest pride and joy.

He was a loving and dedicated father to Melissa Kutz (Brian), Melanie Brewer (Wayne), and Marybeth Thiel, always offering guidance, support, and an unwavering presence. His heart grew even fuller as a proud grandfather to Ethan Hollis (Ashling), Tyler Pullen, Bethanie Burns (Patrick), Taylor Crowley, Emily Pennington (Zach), Hannah Williamson, Jaxon Thiel, Willow Thiel, and George Thiel. George delighted in being a great-grandfather to William Hollis, Jayce, Trysten, and Lyra Crowley, Lucille and Sullivan Burns, finding immense joy in each new generation.

George is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Cecelia Shelton, Brent Ridenour (Linda), Cindy Jordan (Carlysle), and Garth Ridenour (Brenda), along with nine nieces and nephews who will forever treasure his presence in their lives.

Above all, George will be remembered for his kind heart steadfast love, and deep devotion to his family. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought comfort, wisdom, and warmth. His love leaves a legacy that will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glioblastoma Cancer Society.
