Felicia Spinelli-Dixon Obituary
Born to the late Edward Spinelli and the late Mary Spinelli (Albert) on April 25, 1962 in Orange, NJ, Felicia was the youngest of four children, Mary Claire, Phyllis, and Edward. After moving to Whippany, NJ at a young age, Felicia fell in love with nature from playing in the woods at the end of Adams Drive. She met her best friend Cindy Raman (Hildebrand) in first grade in elementary school, who has remained a friend to her and her family to this day.
She met Jeffery L. Dimit at University of Illinois, where they both graduated in 1984, and moved to Charleston for his Naval Assignment. Their marriage was short-lived. Felicia met Richard F. Dixon in 1985 in the Charleston Community Band where they became great friends after his recent divorce. They got married on December 23, 1989. They gave birth to two children, Dodge Albert Dixon in 1994 and Dana Lynne Dixon in 1999. Felicia worked at MUSC, Charleston Naval Shipyard and Scotts while in Charleston. In 1994 she earned her second degree from Medical University of SC.
The family moved to Columbia, SC in 2000, where Felicia joined MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) and made numerous friends through the program. Felicia always had a smile on her face and was never a stranger to anyone. She made friends everywhere she went; her son's boy scout troops, her daughter's girl scout adventures, Piney Grove Elementary school where she worked and volunteered, Virginia Wingard Methodist Church, Gateway Baptist Church and Riverland Hills Baptist Church where she played flute in the orchestra for 19 years. She was also a member of Columbia Community Band, The Five Points Wild Irish Band, and Lexington Community Band. She formed countless relationships across the country through the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she had worked the past 15 years.
Felicia was never an idle person, always adventuring, always on the move. She traveled to all 50 United States and several countries abroad. She was a big supporter of State and National Parks, having visited all of the state parks in SC, twice, and numerous other parks across the country. An avid birdwatcher, Felicia enjoyed music, gardening, canning, baking, and the great outdoors. And while she has gone to be with the Lord, she leaves behind a legacy of wonder, individuality, togetherness, friendship, happiness, patience, and love. She is succeeded by her siblings and their spouses, her best friend Cindy and her family, her first husband Jeff, her children Dodge and Dana, and her husband of 35 years, Richard.
Her memorial service will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church at 201 Lake Murray Blvd, Irmo, SC on August 10th at 2 pm. The family will be accepting flowers or donations to the National Audubon Society.
