Euphemia Carney Obituary

Mrs. Euphemia (Eupha) Strickland Carney, of Lexington, South Carolina passed peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at age 92.

A devoted spouse, mother, friend and servant of faith, Eupha lived a life filled with love and grace. She found joy in prayer, family and helping others. Eupha was a devoted Christian who cherished her Bible and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

She and her husband, Ira, were both members of the Order of the Eastern Star (OES) for 65 plus years, and currently, Chapter 273 of Dentsville. They attended Lake Murray Baptist Church of Lexington and took solace in knowing the Lord was watching over them. She was known for always smiling and being the first to make everyone feel welcome and loved. We will miss her giggles.

She was born in Green Sea, South Carolina on July 8, 1933, and graduated from Loris High School, Columbia Junior College, and Draughon's Business College. She retired from the S. C. Department of Mental Health.

Eupha will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 72 years, Ira; children, Clark (DeLane), Wayne, Deborah (John), and Mark (Dawn); grandchildren Joshua, Justin, Benjamin, David, Devin, Rachel, Marlo, Sophia, Joe, Julie and Kristy; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Hudson, Chloe, Laurel, Isabella and Joaquin; grand greats Lainey and Harley; niece Ann F. Dale and nephew Raymond Fadool.

Eupha was predeceased by her parents, William and Gladys Strickland, siblings Parthenia S. Fadool, William Mullinex; and grandson Daniel Carney.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Heartsong Hospice and McLeod Home Service for their warmth in caring for Eupha.

The funeral service will be held at 11:30 o'clock, on Thursday, January 29th, at Shives Funeral Home, 7600 Trenholm Road Chapel Columbia, SC, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Charles Smith. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 10:30 o'clock until 11:30 o'clock. Burial will follow at 1 o'clock at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road Columbia, SC.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
