Elizabeth Jones Maxima Obituary

Elizabeth Ann Jones Maxima was born on September 14, 1944, in Branchville, South Carolina, to the late Thomas and Ellaree Glover Jones. On May 26, 2025, she peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord at the home of her daughter in Upstate South Carolina.
She was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County before moving to New York, where she built a meaningful and successful career. Elizabeth retired after more than 30 years of dedicated service with the State of New York. After retirement, she returned to her beloved South Carolina to enjoy her later years.
A woman of deep faith, Elizabeth loved the Gospel and lived a life marked by generosity and grace. She faithfully tithed and gave freely to those in need, always ready to offer food, shelter, or comfort. Her warm and welcoming spirit touched everyone she met. Adventurous and free-spirited, Elizabeth traveled widely and embraced new cultures with joy. Her love for people and her natural curiosity shaped a life well lived.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Baxton, and her grandchildren, Derrick Baxton and Chelecha Ramsay.
Elizabeth leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and treasured memories. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (John) Hatfield and Juilet Baxton, of Richmond, Virginia; her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and her dear friend, Anna Harley. She is also survived by her sisters: Jessie Mae Robinson of Titusville, Florida; Barbara (Eulysee) Carson of Queens, New York; and Lucille (Willie) Smith of Hackensack, New Jersey. Her warmth, sense of humor, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
