Dorothy Green Obituary
Dorothy Golden Green – affectionately known as "Tootsie" – was born on September 20, 1945, in Washington, D.C. to Luther Samuel Golden, Sr. and Dorothy Gallman Golden. At a young age she moved to Columbia, South Carolina where she was a proud 1963 graduate of Lakeview High School, West Columbia, SC. After high school, she received training and certification as a medical technician at Good Samaritan Waverly Hospital in Columbia, SC, before moving to New York City, New York where she was employed for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs until her retirement in 1995.
Throughout her life, Dorothy's warmth, compassion, and unwavering devotion touched all who knew her. She possessed a quiet spirit and a kind word for everyone she met, always striving to uplift those around her. Her home was a place of comfort and welcome, filled with laughter, heartfelt conversation and the aroma of her delicious home-cooked meals. Her home was always special because she loved spending time with her family.
In her work and in her faith community, Dorothy was admired for her dedication, her steadfastness, and her quiet strength. She was the heart and soul of her family; fiercely loyal, protective, and full of life. She loved her family with every fiber of her being, and she showed it. A very loving sister, friend and confidant, she found joy in helping others and caring for loved ones in times of need.
Dorothy was the oldest of four siblings. Her unwavering faith and deep love for God guided her throughout her life, and she wholeheartedly accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. A devoted and longtime member of Brookland Baptist Church in West Columbia, South Carolina and Trinity Baptist Church in Bronx, New York. Dorothy's presence was a cherished part of her faith community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Deacon Luther Samuel Golden, Sr. and Dorothy Gallman Golden, as well as her grandson, David Giovanni Boseman.
Dorothy leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Jerome Green; daughters, Fliceánná "Lisa" Sheppard Boseman and Carla Green Hall; granddaughter, K'ri Isis Boseman; bonus granddaughter, Shayqual Thompson; great-grandchildren Jaida Thompson, Da'Vaya Boseman, Sa'Daya Boseman, David Boseman, Jr., Prince Boseman and Gabriele Boseman; sisters, Sandra Golden (Horace) Brown and Claudia Lauretta (Benjamin) Williams; one brother, Luther Samuel Golden, Jr.; God sons: Michael Stover, Andy Lecointe and Andrew Lecointe, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly. Her legacy of love will live on forever in our hearts.
