Doris Mooney Obituary

Doris Hair Mooney, 86, of West Columbia, South Carolina, went to be with her Heavenly Father on December 12, 2025.

Born in Williston, South Carolina, in 1939, Doris was the daughter of Laurie Adolphus Hair and Lucy Allen Laird. She graduated from Williston-Elko High School and attended Anderson College. On February 8, 1959, she married the love of her life, James Mooney, Jr., and they shared 56 years of marriage devoted to family, faith, and service.

As an Air Force wife, Doris embraced a life of travel, living with her family in England, Florida, North Dakota, and Delaware before returning to South Carolina following James' retirement.

Doris was a faithful member of Congaree Baptist Church, where she taught the Word of Life Sunday School class and sang beautifully in the choir. Music was one of her great joys, and she recorded an album titled One Day at a Time.

A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Doris was a faithful servant of Christ whose kindness and gentle spirit will be cherished always.

She is survived by her children: Brenda M. Joye (Jeff), Steven M. Mooney (Renee), and Timothy D. Mooney (Deanna); eight grandchildren: Jeremy Mooney (Jennifer), Daniel Mooney, Joshua Mooney (Ashton), Melissa Damour (Ben), Jason Joye (Heather), Jill Sadle (Jack), Sara Antognioni (Kevin); fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Mooney, Jr., and grandson, Brian Joye.

A service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday, December 16, at Congaree Baptist Church, 101 Pine Ridge Drive, West Columbia, SC. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. The service will be live-streamed on Facebook @CBC29172
