Charles Litchfield Obituary

A service to celebrate the life of Charles Braxton Litchfield, 79, will be held at 4:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, August 16th in the Churchyard of The First Presbyterian Church of Columbia, with The Rev. Dr. David H. Lauten officiating. Charles died on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Still Hopes Retirement Community where he had resided following the loss of his wife, Mickey. Born in Florence, South Carolina on May 25, 1946, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman H. Litchfield. He was a 1964 graduate of A.C. Flora High School. He attended the University of South Carolina but his education was put on hold when he responded to the call to join the Air Force where he admirably served in the Vietnam War. After his service in Vietnam, he returned to the University of South Carolina where he earned his Bachelors of Electrical Engineering degree. Charles had a long career in municipal utilities in Camden, Bennettsville, and Clinton, where he retired as a city manager. Following his retirement he and his wife returned to Camden where he embarked on a second career as CEO of a Cassatt Water Company before retiring again. Charles was an avid model airplane enthusiast for most of his life and also enjoyed woodworking and making stained-glass works of art which will be cherished by his family for many years to come. His quick wit was always appreciated, and he usually had a funny quip for most occasions. Most of all, Charles walked with the Lord every day. He enjoyed Bible studies and fellowship and learning more about Christ each day. Charles is survived by his son, Jonathan McLean Robinson and wife Jennifer, daughter, Caroline Litchfield Foster and husband Jason; grandchildren, McLean, Lucy, and Mary Lancaster Robinson, and William, Andrew, and Thomas Foster as well as many nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by wife Mickey Smith Litchfield, his parents Norman H. and Bonnie Clemmons Litchfield, and sister Bonnie Ruth Smyrl and brother-in-law Alfred Smyrl. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
