Betty Amick Obituary

Betty Hatley Amick, 83, of Columbia, died on Saturday, July 5, 2025. Born on August 22, 1941, in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late Jay Edward Hatley and Kathleen Carroll Hatley. Prior to her retirement, she enjoyed a career that spanned nearly three decades with the South Carolina Department of Health (DHEC). Mrs. Amick had a green thumb and enjoyed keeping an immaculate yard. She especially loved to grow beautiful shrubbery and daylilies. Mrs. Amick enjoyed shopping and took great pride in her appearance and how she dressed. Survivors include her son, Tony Amick (Susie) of Blythewood; daughter, Rhonda Amick Lanier (Barry) of Columbia; grandchildren, Travis Amick (Allison), Bryant Paschal (Victoria), Michael Dylan Lanier (fiancé, Emmy Viernes, and Brandon Ray Lanier (Madison); great grandchildren, William Robert Paschal and Maebel Rae Lanier; sister, Patricia Hatley Walker, as well as numerous nieces and nephews she greatly adored. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, Henry Ray Amick, Jr., and a brother, Samuel Edward Hatley. The funeral service for Mrs. Amick will be held at 2 o'clock, Friday, July 11th at Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, 7600 Trenholm Road Ext, Columbia, SC, with the Rev. R. Joseph Copeland officiating. The burial will immediately follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Rd, Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the funeral home beginning at 1 o'clock. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
