Betty Abell Boney Price Obituary
The funeral service for Mrs. Betty Boney Price, 92, of Blythewood, will be held at 11 o'clock on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in the Church Cemetery. The Rev. Scott Smoak and The Rev. Julie Belman will officiate.
Betty Lee Abell was born at home on February 8, 1933, and died Friday, July 11, 2025. She was the youngest daughter of the late Brooks Charlie and Lelia Margaret Hagood Abell. She attended Blythewood Schools and Draughon's Business College before her employment with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture. Additionally, she worked for several years at Bethel Hanberry Elementary School, known then as Hanberry-Bethel School and later at Blythewood Pharmacy. She married Bobby Samuel Boney and started their family; her most proud accomplishment. Following the early death of her first husband, she married William Myron Price and, together, took many opportunities to travel and enjoy life's moments. As a dedicated member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Blythewood for many years, Mrs. Price was active in the OASIS Choir, Hillclimbers and the Seekers Sunday School Class. Throughout her life, there was no greater title given to her than the name 'MaBet' - a cherished name used by both family and strangers alike.
Survivors include her daughter, Donna B. Raines, and her husband, Brian; son-in-law, Jerry Clark; daughter-in-law, Jaynie Boney; grandchildren, Dr. Evan W. Clark, Bobby Raines, Melissa Roberts; and great-grandson, Justin Greider. In addition to her parents, first husband, and second husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Melissa "Lisa" B. Clark; son, S. Gregory "Greg" Boney; and sister, Peggy Abell Clegg (Carl).
The tender care, unwavering support, and heartfelt dedication of Sheina Luayhornick, Connie Cunningham, Caroline Hudson, and many others, too numerous to name, will be remembered as a legacy of love and compassion.
From 5 until 7 o'clock on Monday evening, the family will receive friends at MaBet's house; the place she made into a home over many years of welcoming others to gather, share meals, and celebrate special occasions. Shives Funeral Home, Trenholm Road Chapel, is assisting the family.
Memorials may be given to Trinity United Methodist Church, 90 Boney Road, Blythewood, SC 29016; or to the Lupus Foundation, Lupus Foundation of America, Inc, 2121 K Street NW, Suite 200, Washington, DC 20037.
