Barbara Ryder Obituary

Barbara Toplock Ryder, aged 69, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, in Lexington, South Carolina. Born in Laurens, SC, she grew up in Blythewood, SC, and later moved to Columbia, finding joy and tranquility on the shores of Lake Murray. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, John Toplock, Jr. and Patricia Ann. She is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Ryder; her sister, Linda VanValkenburg Bills; her loving son, Thomas Harrison, and daughter-in-law, Toni. Barbara was a loving grandmother to Megan, Emily, Ryan, Elliot, and Elizabeth. She also leaves behind her stepdaughter, Jennifer Heinz, and grandson, Tristan Heinz, along with her beloved nephews and their families. Barbara spent many fulfilling years as a business analyst, after which she left to pursue her true passion in the food service industry. Her culinary talents were renowned among family and friends, bringing warmth and joy to every gathering she hosted. In her personal time, Barbara was an avid reader, finding joy and adventure within the pages of her favorite books. A small memorial service will be held this Saturday, October 18, from 2-3 PM at the Woodridge Mausoleum Chapel, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Humane Society of South Carolina or American Cancer Society.
