Barbara Bickers Obituary

Barbara (BJ) Jean Riding Bickers, 76, of Columbia, SC, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025. BJ was born November 6, 1948, in Whitinsville, Massachusetts, the daughter of Harold and Jean Spencer Riding. She resided with her parents and brothers in Atlanta, GA for many years before moving to Detroit, MI, and ultimately Columbia. She cherished the many friendships forged along the way. BJ loved traveling, shopping, attending plays and concerts, cheering on the Gamecocks, and spending time with family and friends. BJ was a faithful member of Ashland United Methodist Church where she especially enjoyed singing in the choir. She also loved the fellowship and learning she found in the Shepherd's Center of St. Andrews, serving a term as president among other leadership roles. Remaining to cherish BJ's memory are her former husband, Reed Bickers; daughter, Katie (David) Knobeloch; grandchildren, John David and Blythe Knobeloch; brothers, Bill Riding and Rob (Karen) Riding; four nephews and a niece. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at Ashland United Methodist Church, 2600 Ashland Road, Columbia, SC 29210.
