Allan Yurko Obituary

Allan Mitchell Yurko, age 64 of Gaston, South Carolina went home to meet his savior Tuesday April 29, 2025. Allan was born in Pouce Coupe, British Columbia, Canada on April 5, 1961. He grew up in Edmonton, Alberta where attended Strathcona Composite High School until the call of the open road became louder than the school bell. Allan learned to drive a semi truck from his cousin, Harvey, at just 17 years old. Over the next 40 years he would deliver loads to eight of the Canadian provinces, the Northwest Territory, and all of the lower 48 United States. He logged several million highway miles without incident prior to retiring from the road in 2018 due to declining health. Allan met his wife Dee after delivering a load to Charleston, South Carolina. He made Columbia, South Carolina his home location when he married Dee just 56 days later. An avid camper and fisherman, Allan liked to tell people he married Dee because she lived on a lake when he met her. Allan considered his brain cancer a gift from his merciful Lord because he said it gave him time to accept Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Allan is survived by his wife of 22 years, Dee Ann Metcalf Yurko; his three children, Jessica Laurel Yurko, Russell Allan Yurko, and Cara Wendy Yurko of Alberta, Canada; his sister Donna Marie Yurko of Alberta, Canada; his sister-in-law Kathy Metcalf Judge of Scottsboro, Alabama, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Mitchell Thomas Yurko and his mother, Deanne Lillian Yurko. The family will receive friends prior to a celebration of life service to be held Saturday May 3, 2025 at Covenant Baptist Church located at 3535 Delree Street, West Columbia, South Carolina 29170. the family will receive friends from 10am to 11am prior to the service at the church. Lunch will be provided in the church fellowship hall following the service. A private family graveside service will be held at Gold Cemetery in Letcher, Alabama, at a future date.
