Maier will be missed very much. He was such a sweet and funny man, not to mention a fount of information. He always kept me up to date on all the current events. It is so quiet in the office with out him. I am so saddened by his passing and his family's loss.

Jolie, Josh, Eli and family...
Please accept my condolences on the loss of your father. I have fond memories of your dad from growing up in Charleston. He had a happy-go-lucky attitude and constant smile on his face, and always loved to share a joke or two. I know that my parents considered him a true friend and they are extremely saddened by his passing.
I wish you all only happiness in the New Year, and I know that the memory of your father will serve as a blessing to all of you.
The Omniscient One should comfort you amongst the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.
Fondly,
Heather Townsend

Dear Hyman Family,
I was saddened to hear the news of Maier and my heart and my tears are with you now during this time. I share in your sadness and send my love. I know your dad was proud of each and every one of you. If he wasn’t making someone laugh then he was enlightening us with a nugget of history or a fun fact that we didn’t know. He was such a unique man and quite a character. He will be missed and certainly not forgotten.
All my Love, Heather Townsend

Maier was a client of mine when I worked in a call center of a clothing manufacturer in Nashville. I always loved when he called in to place orders because of his friendly personality and outrageous stories. While vacationing in South Carolina I had the priviledge of coming to his store and meeting him in person which is not something that most customer service reps got a chance to do. He invited me to his restaurant and it was wonderful. He was am amazing man and I know he will be missed.

Fifty years ago, my Grandmother drove a panel truck with dry goods to the families in the Edisto, Parkers Ferry and Jerico areas of outlying Charleston county. Many times she took me with her "to town" to Mr. Hyman's store to buy supplies. He was always there to help her and to smile and laugh with the child she brought along. The Charleston community, as well as your family, has lost a treasure. My sympathies to you all.

Arron, Sylvia and the rest of Maier's Family,
Kathy and I loved Maier and always enjoyed being with him at your home. He was such an interesting man to talk to. We looked forward to sitting on your porch with him and talking about history and other interesting things. He was like a walking history book. Also he made us laugh a lot with his dry type of humor.
We will miss him very much!Judging from the attendance at his funeral, many others will miss him also. Charleston and the World is a better place because Maier Hyman was here for a short while.
Sylvia, your tribute to him at his funeral was very good. You summarized the feelings that many people have about Maier.

Dear Hyman Family,I have very fond memories of your father;at Shul, in his store and at times when he and your mother and my parents visited. My father often told me of his adventures with your father when they were growing up and of how much their long-time friendship meant to him. My father truly loved your father. He,and the entire Charleston community share the weight of his loss with you. I hope these words can give some comfort in the difficult days ahead.
