Wilton Shirrel Obituary


SHIRREL, SR., Wilton The family of Wilton W Shirrel, Sr., 75, of Walterboro, regret to announce his death on the evening of Thursday, February 21, 2008 in Roper Hospital, which is the same hospital he was born. His memorial service will be Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 11:00 o'clock in the Wasamasaw Baptist Church, 704 Wasamasaw Lane, (off Rt. 176) Moncks Corner, SC. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Wilton's memory are suggested to the American Cancer Society, Hope Lodge, 267 Calhoun St., Charleston SC 29401. Inurnment will be at a later date in Beaufort National Cemetery. Arrangements were made through Palmetto Cremation Society. The widower of Rene Morris Shirrel, he was born in Charleston on January 2, 1933 son of the late William Whitten Shirrel and Margaret Smith Shirrel. A Lutheran, he attended North Charleston High School and was an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He later worked as an electrical lineman with SCE&G. He is survived by four sons, Wilton W Shirrel, Jr. of Goose Creek, Ronald Whitten Shirrel of Montello, NV, Robert Lawrence Shirrel of Summerville, and Frank David Shirrel of Walhalla. Also surviving are his daughter, Deanna Fechtner of Reno, NV and his niece and nephew with whom he made his home the past several months, James and Darlene Graham of Goose Creek, as well as 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Shirrel and Mason Shirrel and a sister, Margaret Sue Dixon. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

For The Shirrel Family and Relatives, We were very sorry to hear of your fathers' death. Please know that we are having a Mass said for him at Mother of the Good Shepherd Monastery in DeLand, FL. As a former daughter-in-law, he always treated me like his own daughter. May GOD grant all of you HIS Beloved Peace at this time...
