William Winter Obituary

William W. Winter COTTAGEVILLE, SC - Mr. William W. Winter, age 70, entered into rest Wednesday morning, September 23, 2015, at his home in Cottageville while under the care of Hospice Care of South Carolina. Funeral services will be conducted 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon, September 26, 2015, from Maple Cane Baptist Church, 21324 Augusta Highway, Cottageville. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation prior to the funeral ceremony beginning at 1 o'clock that afternoon in the church sanctuary. Flowers will be accepted, or for those that desire, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Meals on Wheels Program at Maple Cane Baptist Church, 21324 Augusta Highway, Cottageville, South Carolina 29435. Born October 20, 1944, in Summerville, he was a son of the late Gordon and Catherine Grooms Winter. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard where he worked for over twenty years. He was a Boilermaker and was a member of Local No. 687 in Charleston. An outdoorsman, his great passions in life were fishing, cooking, and woodworking; having made many wonderful treasures for friends and family. He made the best Catfish Stew and spaghetti sauce. He loved sitting in his swing on the front porch and watching westerns. He was a member of Maple Cane Baptist Church. Surviving are: his loving wife of thirty years, Mrs. JoAllen Thompson Winter; five sons, Kevin Winter (Pam) of Cartersville, Georgia, Darren Winter (Kelly) of Fort Meade, Maryland, Travis Winter (Cindy) of Summerville, Brian Winter of Holly Hill, and Michael Brownlee of Cottageville; two daughters, Michelle Crabb (David) of Cottageville, and Lynnly Carter of Walterboro; a brother, Thomas Winter (B.J.) of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and a sister, Jenny Gouin (Roy) of Gulfport, Mississippi. There are twenty-one grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and Sophie his pet dog and sleeping partner. He was preceded in death by three sisters; two brothers; and a granddaughter.
