William West Obituary

William Spiers West, Sr. Charleston - William Spiers West, Sr., 86, of James Island, passed away peacefully at Home, surrounded by his entire family on Thursday, December 22, 2022. William was born South of Broad on December 26, 1935 to George Richard West and Sara Leonora Spiers. He was a true Charlestonian, through and through. In 1946, William was inducted into the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity, and received a Bachelor of Science from Newberry College in 1958. A year later, he met the love of his life, Sharon Barnette West. They were inseparable for 56 years, until her passing in 2016. His children and grandchildren will always remember him for his love of crabbing, working in the yard, and breaking bread with family and friends. He made every Christmas magical and he will be missed. He is survived by sons, William Spiers West Jr. (Shane Pierce) of Atlanta, GA and Brian Barnette (Debora) West of Havelock, NC; daughter, Saralyn Emily West Andrade of Mt. Pleasant, as well as his grandchildren, Stacie Renee West (Jonathon) Bruner, Brian Barnette West II, Gabriel Adrian Andrade, and Dorian Armand Andrade. William's legacy will live on in his great-grandchildren, Jaxon Bruner and Jeremiah Bruner. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Puddy. A celebration of his life will be held at 11am,Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Harbor View Presbyterian Church, 900 Harbor View Rd, Charleston, SC 29412.
