William Leroy Veno Charleston - William Leroy (Roy) Veno, 96, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest at the home of his daughter, Angelia Diann Brown and husband, Steve Brown, where he resided, Thursday, January 20, 2022. The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 11:00am in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends from 10:00am until time of the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel. Roy was born July 25, 1925, in Charleston, SC, to the late William Jasper Veno and the late Laura Idell Welch Veno. He started working at Charleston Naval Shipyard at 15 years old and was known as one of the boys of World War II when he joined the Navy Seabees at age 18. After World War II, he joined the Naval Reserves and served in the Korean War. He was employed at the Charleston Naval Shipyard until he retired at 55 years old as a General Foreman Rigger. Pop enjoyed fishing with his wife and especially his son, Billy in Lake Marion and the Cooper River. They treasured those moments of fishing and came back with many tales. Pop never met anyone he didn't like. He was an outstanding man to all whom he has met and a wonderful family man. Pop will be greatly missed. Roy is survived by his son, William L. (Billy) Veno, Jr.(Charlotte) of Johns Island, SC; his daughter, Angelia Diann Brown (Steve) North Charleston, SC; six grandchildren, Crystal Veno Tittle (Mark) of Sumter, SC; Katrina Veno of Charleston, SC; Sheree Kicklighter Taylor of Bristol, TN; Craig Brown of North Charleston, SC; Chantell Kicklighter Rumph of Charleston, SC; Brackley Kicklighter III (Kristi) of Hendersonville, NC; he has thirteen great-grandchildren, Abigail Tittle of Johns Island, SC; Laurin Tittle, Keegan Tittle and Cole Tittle all of Sumter, SC; Ashton Oltmann of Johns Island, SC; Miles Oltmann of Summerville, SC; Matthew Taylor (Crystal) of Nashville, TN; Jonathan Taylor (Katelin) of Bristol, TN; Jeremy Taylor of Chattanooga, TN; Amanda Rumph Hogan (Shawn) of Charleston, SC; Brackley IV (Ley), Scott and Savannah Kicklighter all of Hendersonville, NC; three great-great-grandchildren Rose Taylor of Nashville, TN; Daphne Taylor of Bristol, TN; "Baby Boy" Hogan due in June of Charleston, SC; step-sister Judy Carr; and step-brother Billy Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Herndon Veno; daughter, Linda Veno Kicklighter; and sister, Dot Rudd. My condolences to the William Veno family. I met Veno on swing shift as rigger app in 1979-80. He was a cool general foreman in shop 72. He had the back shift working like a well tune watch. He loved to come to the Yardbird dinner for riggers, crane operators, etc in North Charleston in the 21 century.
Rest easy Sailor, we have the Watch.

Uncle Roy you were a man of Integrity and faith in the Lord. You always had a smile on your face and enjoyed people especially your family. You were my Nana Dot brother. I remember many talks in the driveway at your house and at Nana's. RIP Uncle Roy Thoughts and prayers for the family during this time.
