William Stutts Obituary

STUTTS, William Entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 25, 2005 William Edward Stutts husband of Margaret Cooper Stutts. He was born in Adams Run Township a son of Andrew Madison Stutts and Virginia Hill Stutts on Monday, March 11, 1918. Mr. Stutts was a graduate of Andrew Murray Trade School for Veterans. He served with the Second Division of the U.S. Army, which landed in the second wave of assaults on the beaches of Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received at the Battle of Ciricy (Purple Heart Hill), the Bronze Star Medal and later received the Normandy Medal from the French consul in recognition of his participation in the liberation of France. On their fiftieth wedding anniversary, he returned with his wife to visit the World War II battlefields in that country. Mr. Stutts was a former lay reader and member of the vestry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. He received the "I Care" Award from the Governor of South Carolina for his twenty years of faithful service in the Soup Kitchen of Crisis Ministries in Charleston. He was a former historian and sergeant-at-arms of the Historic Order of the Purple Heart. Mr. Stutts was a life member of Secession Camp #4, Sons of Confederate Veterans. Surviving is his wife of 59 years, Margaret C. Stutts; a son Brian Leonard Stutts of Augusta, GA; a daughter Linda Marie Sexton of Washington, DC; a brother Wesley Stutts of Gaffney; 2 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Stutts are invited to attend his funeral service at 10:30 AM Thursday, March 31, 2005 at the Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. John. Burial with Military Honors will be in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will received friends this Wednesday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy, between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made to the Garden Angels, c/o Episcopal Church of St. Peter and St. John, 1393 Miles Dr., Charleston, SC 29407. Arrangements by JAMES A.
