William Ray Obituary

RAY, William William Gaines Ray, 88, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina passed away on Friday, August 1, 2008 at Sandpiper Convalescent Center, a nursing home in Mount Pleasant. Mr. Ray was born September 28, 1919 in Birmingham, Alabama, son of the late Wallace Gaines Ray and Flora Mae Patterson. He graduated from the University of Georgia in 1941 with a degree in Chemistry. He was a chemist for TVA until he began a sales career with the Chemical Division of Pfizer, Inc. where he eventually became National Sales Manager. Mr. Ray and his wife, the late Frances Stokely Ray, were long-time residents of Mountain Lakes, NJ where Mr. Ray served as Senior Warden of St. Peter's Episcopal Church and President of Rockaway River Country Club. The couple retired to St. Simons Island, Georgia. Mr. Ray moved to Mount Pleasant after his wife's death in 1999. He is survived by a nephew, John Johnson Bissell of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a niece, Margaret Patterson Fulcher of McClellanville, SC; a nephew, James L. St. John of Atlanta, GA; a daughter, Lynnda Sue Barnish of Palmyra, TN; and one grandchild. A graveside service will be held in Crawford, Georgia in the near future. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
