William Painter Obituary

William Frank Painter Charleston - William Frank Painter of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest on October 24, 2022, at his home in West Ashley surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Painter was born in Thomson, Georgia, on August 19, 1937, a son of the late William Harry Painter and Sara Kendrick Painter. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a reception at 1:00 p.m. followed by funeral services at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Charleston, South Carolina. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel. Mr. Painter was a graduate of Thomson High School and San Diego City College. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer, USN, and retired from Federal civil service with the Navy. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder; Charleston Elks Lodge No. 242; NARFE; and the Fleet Reserve Association. Surviving are his wife, Patricia Ann Crosby Painter; two sons: William Frank Painter, Jr., of Los Angeles, California, and Steven Michael Painter (wife Leslie) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina; a daughter, Karen Matthews (husband Michael) of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren: Bradley Ryan Painter, Valerie Sue Painter Sherpa (husband Jigme), Matthew Hamilton Painter, Benjamin Murphy Matthews, and Caitlin Merritt Matthews; his sister, Joyce Strother (husband Lester) of Thomson, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, David L. Painter, of Thomson, Georgia. The family will receive friends at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, Wednesday evening, October 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenburg Boulevard, Charleston, South Carolina 29407 or to The Wounded Warrior Project.
