William Nettles Obituary

William Nettles JOHNS ISLAND - Mr. William Rallie Herman Nettles, affectionately known by many as "Bill", age 78, of Johns Island, entered into rest Saturday morning, June 18, 2016, at his home. He was the loving husband of Mrs. Linda Crosby Nettles who passed away in March of 2016. Funeral services will be conducted 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, June 22, 2016, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Ricky Crosby officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Glendale Memorial Cemetery, 2201 Mount Carmel Road, Walterboro. Born May 11, 1938 in Colleton County, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Lawrence Lee Nettles and the late Treacie Evelyn Roberts Nettles. He served our country faithfully in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was a retired Supervisor from the Printing Press Department at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. Bill believed in hard work and possessed a strong work ethic. He was well known around the Johns Island area as a great Transmission Mechanic. An outdoorsman, he dearly loved deer hunting and was a past vice president of the Salkehatchie Hunting Club and he also loved fishing. He also loved Nascar Motor Sports and Dale Jarrett Racing. Surviving are: his children, Sonja Pacey of Johns Island, Sharon Roberts Simmons of Johns Island, Woodie Nettles of Bamberg, John Michael Phelps of Missouri, Robert Crosby of Summerville, Toria Gagne of Charleston, and Jerry Passalaigue of Charleston; two brothers, Marshall and Atticus; and two sisters, Lavenia and Viola. There are fifteen grandchildren to include, Chuck McLauchlin of Jacksonville, Storm Nettles and Brynn Nettles of Walterboro, Shane Nettles of Charleston, Robert Pacey of Walterboro; and Tiffany Simmons, Misty Doerner and Preston Pacey all of Ohio; as well as numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Riley Nettles. Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has requested that memorial contributions be directed in his memory to: Charleston County Relay For Life, 5900 Core Road, Suite 504, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406. Family and friends are invited to call during a time of visitation which will be held from 5 o'clock until 7 o'clock Tuesday evening at THE BRICE W.
