William Moody Obituary

William Brian Moody Charleston - William Brian Moody, 52, was born on December 25, 1963 and peacefully passed away in his home on March 27, 2016. He was born in Charleston, SC, son of William Arthur Moody, Jr. and Audrey Blackmon Moody. He was married to Maribeth Fordyce Moody and father of William Brian Moody, Jr. (Sydney) and Benjamin Arthur Moody. He was grandson of William Arthur and Estelle Atkinson Moody, and John Edward and Edna Copeland Blackmon, all deceased. His in-laws, Donald Lee and Marlene Paluzzi Fordyce survive him. Brian was known for his integrity, candor, pragmatism, quick wit and infectious smile. Brian's favorite pastime was tailgating. It was his ideal day... family, friends, Maribeth's food, and Clemson Football. He loved more than anything to spend time with his two sons, whom he considered to be his best friends. He was a 1982 graduate of Middleton High School and 1986 graduate of Clemson University, where he earned his degree in Administrative Management. He was owner and managing partner of Moody & O'Neal CPA's and Advisors. Brian was also a member of the SC Association of CPA's, American Institute of CPA's, and a registered representative with Oppenheimer & Company, Inc. Formerly, he was Managing Partner of Gamble, Givens & Moody LLC and Dixon Hughes Goodman LP (Charleston Office). Brian subscribed to the principle that one should make the community that you live in better than when you found it. He accomplished this by serving on various boards and committees. He served on the Charleston County School Board from 1996-2008 and Chairman 1999-2000. Brian was the Chairman of the Board of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce 2005-2006, and served on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of Trident United Way's Alexis de Tocqueville Society, SC Tax Realignment Committee, Governor's Committee for school bus privatization, Volunteer Center Board of Directors, Operation Sight Board of Directors, Youth Services of Charleston and The Mayor's Children's Cabinet. A member of John Wesley United Methodist Church since early childhood, Brian served terms as Treasurer and was the Chairman of The Capitol Campaign. He enjoyed teaching the high school youth Sunday school class, as well as playing on the softball and basketball teams. Survivors, in addition to his immediate family, Alison (Tom) Moody Johnson, Brantley (Julie) Moody, Gregory (Karen) Fordyce and Julianne (Wade) Fordyce Griffin; nieces and nephews, Copeland and Boyd Johnson, Samantha, Zachary and Steven Moody, Isabella and Nathan Fordyce, and Lily Griffin; great-aunts, Elizabeth and Ann Blackmon; great-uncle, Edgar Blackmon; aunts, Dotty Short, Nancy Moody, and Barbara Scott and Uncle Terry (Peggy) Blackmon; cousins, Tommy Taylor, Jr., Cheryl Blackmon, Matthew Blackmon, Kathy Lamb McCoy and Robert Lamb. He was predeceased by Johnny Blackmon, uncle, and Susan Taylor Demko, cousin. His visitation and funeral service will be held at John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway, Charleston, SC 29407. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 1, 2016. Following the service there will be a private burial at Magnolia Cemetery. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Brian Moody served this community in many ways. I always respected that he would discuss his school board votes with people having different opinions. In business he was steady in serving his clients and friends. He made Charleston a better place. He is missed. God Bless his family and many friends.

Maribeth, you have to be one of the most dedicated and patient wives I've ever met. Your love, dedication and the always positive attitude you managed to muster for Brian this last year and a half was an inspiration. I know he appreciated all that you, Will & Ben did for him, even when he was frustrated with all of us for bossing him around. It was a pleasure getting to know you all and your beautiful family. Having the opportunity to care for Brian was an honor. My thoughts and prayers are with you that the in weeks and months and years to come that you can somehow find peace in all of this. Brian leaves behind a great legacy, something I'm sure he was proud to have been able to foster in his short time on this Earth. Much love!

There are some people who make the world a better place just because they are in it. Brian was one such person. There are some times when the world around you seems to ache, seems to be off balance because of the absence of a soul. Whether you are family, an acquaintance or close friend, I am sure this is one such time. One of the "good guys", one of the people that just helped keep your faith in mankind, one of those hard working, hard serving hard loving, hard playing, hard serving guys is now reaping his rewards in a place far better than this.
To Maribeth and the family, as prayers have surrounded you throughout this hard season, prayers surround you now. May God bless and keep you, strengthen, comfort and heal your hearts. May Brian's legacy flourish in all who he impacted with love, service, kindness, and friendship.
Heartfelt Sympathy,
Kim Wood

Brian was my accountant for about 20 years. He was smart and provided keen insight and direction. I looked forward to our tax conversations. He spoke often of his sons. He wanted only the best for them. I considered Brian to be my friend.
I will keep the Moody family in my prayers.

Brian and I were classmates in the class of '82, Middleton High School.
We were good friends and I have several fond memories of him. One of the best was when we were in a small group that did a parody of "Julius Caesar" in English class and he came up with the consensus best character name, "Brunus Moodus!"
I am so very sorry that word of Brian's illness didn't reach me in Florida. The last time I saw him was in June 2012 at our 30th year reunion. I distinctly remember that he and I spent quite a nice bit of time catching up on our lives and, in hindsight, I am so glad that we got to reconnect, albeit far too briefly.
May his memory serve as a blessing for the extended family and may you know from no more such sorrow.
I was prompted to take down my MHS yearbooks yesterday and relive some great times with Brian as a friend and classmate.
With deepest condolences,
Adam Rosen

I first met Brian soon after coming to Charleston in 2000 and was made to feel like an old friend. We did lots of work together with the Chamber and it's through this organization that I came to know Brian's mom, dad and brother who are also friends. Brian was a great leader and had a wicked sense of humor. While he may have been a CPA I think his true calling was as a stand up comedian. With Brian's passing we lost a good friend and great local leader. May he rest in the peace of the Lord.

Maribeth, Alison and Moody Family, I am heartbroken for you as are all those who knew Brian. While too short, he epitomizes a life well lived and has left us all with a wonderful legacy. I hope that as time passes, the sadness and tremendous sense of loss will soon be replaced with only warm memories of the good times that you shared with him - his infectious smile, his wonderful sense of humor, his good nature ... Y'all are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. May Brian's memory always be your blessing.
