William Meyer Jr. HILTON HEAD, SC - William Henry Meyer, Jr. of Hilton Head died November 22 at age 89 at The Preston Health Center after a long illness. He was born in 1924 at Newark Presbyterian Hospital, the son of Louise and William H. Meyer, Sr. He grew up in Maplewood, NJ where he graduated from Columbia High School and then attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ. During World War II he piloted the B-17 plane, known as the "Flying Fortress". After the war, he completed his education at Rutgers, graduating with a degree in Economics. While there he joined Delta Phi Epsilon fraternity and was president for 2 years. His business career was in the printing industry, working in NYC for RR Heywood Co. and later Blanchard Press. In 1950 he married Winifred (Winnie) Palmer in Maplewood, NJ. They moved to New Providence, NJ where they raised 3 daughters: Christine Kohlhepp (Andrew) Hilton Head, Wendy Dopp (Steven) Charleston, SC, and Kimberly Kiyosaki (Robert) Phoenix, AZ. He was a member of the Summit / New Providence Jaycees and also served as their NJ State vice president. Some of the family's happiest memories are of their summers at the Jersey Shore where they challenged the big waves and sunned on the soft sand. In 1971 the family moved to Lake Oswego, OR where Mr. Meyer joined the printing company of Rono Graphics. They enjoyed living on the lake and cruising in their Reinell inboard, water-skiing and swimming. After 25 years there, he and his wife moved back East to be closer to family. They checked the Eastern seaboard from Kiawah Island to areas in Florida and settled on Hilton Head. Bill was an avid golfer and a walking encyclopedia on all sports. He read every word in the Sports section of the newspaper and watched all the golf tournaments on TV. He was a member of Canoebrook Country Club in NJ, Waverly Country Club in Oregon, and Port Royal Golf Club on Hilton Head. He organized the 1st NFL preseason football game between the NY Giants and the Philadelphia Eagles in 1969. Bill is survived by his wife, 3 daughters and their spouses, 5 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
