William McNeill Obituary

McNEILL, William William Ellis McNeill, age 79, of Hanahan, SC, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at his residence after a period of declining health. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday afternoon, February 14, 2006, at 4:00 p.m., in Portside Baptist Church, 1179 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406. The family will receive friends after the service in the church social hall. Burial will be private. Mr. McNeill was born October 25, 1926, in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Edgar and Mayme McNeill. Mr. McNeill was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired after more than 30 years from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, Printing and Publication Division. Mr. McNeill was a member of Portside Baptist Church. He will always be remembered for his love of golf. Mr. McNeill is survived by his wife, Jessie Cox McNeill of Hanahan, SC. On January 20, 2006, they celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by a daughter, LouAnn Davis and her husband Charlie of Hanahan, SC, a granddaughter, Ansley Wells Hammond and her husband Brandon, missionaries of Charlotte, NC. Also included are a grandson, Townson Wells of Hanahan, SC, a sister, Mildred Hardison of Tampa, FL, a sister-in-law, Gail McNeill of Morganton, NC, and four nieces. Predeceased by brother, Lorence McNeill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Hospice of Charleston, 3870 Leeds Ave., Suite #101, North Charleston, SC 29405, or Portside Baptist Church, 1179 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29405.
