William Maughan Obituary

William Gerald "Jerry" Maughan CHARLESTON - William Gerald "Jerry" Maughan passed away on the 23rd day of his 82nd year at home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born in Benevola, Alabama to William Cecil and Lucile Maughan. Jerry graduated from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa with a degree in Chemical Engineering, Tau Beta Pi. Upon graduation, he began his career with West Virginia Pulp and Paper and all of its successors. He was diagnosed in 1997 with Chronic Myelogenous Leukemia causing him to medically retire in 2001. Jerry fought for almost 20 years to remain with his beloved family. With three major medically diagnosed illnesses, he never asked why, only saying "we will do what needs to be done". Jerry's favorite pastime was spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. Jerry leaves behind his Wife Nancy, of 50 years; children: Valarie Maughan White and Julie Maughan Capitan; grandchildren: Samantha Ashley Maughan White, Mackenzie Maughan Capitan and Sydney Maughan Capitan; his brother Kenneth Maughan (Brenda Kaye) and his sister Brenda Maughan Hainsey (Mike). Jerry is predeceased by his father, William Cecil; mother, Lucile; brother, James Donald Maughan and nephew, Christopher Alan Hainsey. A memorial service for Jerry will be held on December 12, 2015 at 11AM in Old St. Andrews Parish Church, 2604 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC 29414. The Reception will follow in his home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chris Hainsey Memorial Scholarship University of Alabama, Room 211 Moody Music Building, Box 870368, Tuscaloosa, AL 35487.
