William Koester Obituary

William John Koester, Sr. CHARLESTON - William 'Bill' John Koester, Sr., 94, of Charleston, SC, died May 23, 2023. His Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Friday, June 2, 2023, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy., Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery will be private. Bill was born May 12, 1929, in Charleston, a son of the late Gertrude Seabrook and Archie Bernard Koester, Sr. He attended public school in Charleston and later apprenticed at the Charleston Naval Shipyard, serving in many different positions over a 40-year career, most recently as a Planner and Estimator. A fun-loving man, Bill was a jokester and enjoyed humor. He also enjoyed his 2006 Mustang. He especially loved his beloved grand-dog, Sheldon. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Bill is survived by his son, William 'Billy' Koester, Jr.; his daughter, Beth Lockliear; and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of over 50 years, Betty Barfield Koester, and a daughter, Faye DuPont.
