Dear Knowles Family:
I was so disappointed to see the announcement about Bill. I thought of how well he would have handled and added to the support for Katrina victims. He would have been calm, deliberate and caring in his successful command of such a tragedy. And he would have handled his role with a quiet sense of humor and a twinkle in his eye.
The social service community in the Lowcountry is grateful for his gifts.
Bill deserves an Irish send-off with the understanding that "The road rose up to meet him. . .and that God holds him in the palm of his hand."
SINCERELY, SANDRA N. FOWLER

Mike & Tim,
My deepest sympathies for the loss of your Dad. I have many memories of him from our high school days. Always encouraging, always supportive, always a smile and a kind word. He was a lovely man and I'm thankful his pain was not prolonged. Take care and hope to see you both soon.

Dear Beth and family, My husband and I were neighbors of Bill when we lived on Kiawah Island. It was our honor to know him and share that chapter of our lives with him. We were together for many get togethers both in his home and ours. We are deeply saddened to hear the news of his passing. He was a fine, compassionate, sweet man. It was a pleasure to have known him.
Our sincere thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

Bill Knowles was a fine man with a compassionate interest in the well-being of others. I was priviledged to work with him in many capacities but most especially when he was a Deputy State Director on my staff at the State Department of Social Services. He brought a county and client oriented perspective that was invaluable in our administration. May he rest well in the peace he so justly deserves. Fare well, Friend.

I'm so sorry to learn of Mr. Knowles passing. I was privileged to work for him for a short period of time when he served as the Aiken County DSS Interim Director. He always had a strong presence in whatever he undertook. He will be missed.

We share your sorrows but take comfort in knowing the legacy of Mr. Knowles. I worked with him for many years and the lessons he taught me remain valuable today. I just hope I can pass on his fairness, persistance, and compassion of all Americans without regard to skin color of status in life. I am blessed to have known Bill Knowles.
May God Bless You.
