William Kendrick Obituary

William Thomas Kendrick MT. PLEASANT - William Thomas Kendrick, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, in the company of loved ones. He was 88 years old. William (Bill) was born December 16, 1936 in Athol, MA, to Thomas and Martha (Butler) Kendrick. Bill graduated from Athol High School in 1954. He then went on to Babson College, graduating in 1957. He built a career in business management, moving from Athol to Durham, NC, to Acton, MA, where he worked at Haartz Corporation for 34 years, retiring as president in 2001. He and his wife, Marsha (Brooks), also of Athol, MA, shared 66 years of marriage and raised 3 children in Acton. They later moved to Harvard, MA, Kennebunk, ME, and then to Mt. Pleasant, SC. Bill was an avid fan of all sports, especially his beloved Boston Red Sox. He loved tennis and played in numerous leagues. He coached his sons' little league teams and could be found on the sidelines of many of his grandchildren's soccer games, tennis matches, basketball games, baseball games, and cross-country races, in addition to piano recitals, theater productions and concerts. He was profoundly devoted to his family, and he never missed an opportunity to express his love to them. Bill's religious faith was deeply held and quietly lived. He was a devoted, lifelong Episcopalian. He served as senior warden at Trinity Church, Concord, MA, and after he moved to South Carolina, he joined Grace Cathedral, where he ushered and worked in the Tea Room. He was a Member of the Fellowship Society of St. John the Evangelist in Cambridge, MA, and served on the Society's fundraising committee for many years. Bill also served his local towns and communities by volunteering on numerous committees, including the Harvard, MA Finance Committee and the Charleston Port and Seafarers Society. Bill was loved by so many for his friendly, gentle manner, his quick sense of humor, his kind concern for everyone he met, his wise counsel for those who needed it, and his belief in the dignity of all people. In addition to his wife Marsha, Bill is survived by his daughter, Eileen (Kendrick) Young and her husband, Mark of Hamilton, MA, son, David and his wife, Diana (Shuda) of Boxborough, MA, and son, Steven and his wife, Anne (Myers) of Mt. Pleasant, SC. He is also survived by his brother, Harry and his wife, Jean of Wilder, VT. Bill was the beloved grandfather to Sarah, Christopher and his wife, Alex, Olivia, Michaella and her wife, Carolyn, Benjamin and his wife, Kayla, Sophia, William and Miles. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 1, at Grace Church Cathedral, Charleston, at 11 AM. Donations may be made in his memory to Grace Church Cathedral, 98 Wentworth St., Charleston, SC 29401 or to the Society of Saint John the Evangelist, 980 Memorial Dr., Cambridge, MA 02138.
