William Joyce Obituary

Maj. William Terence Joyce SPARTANBURG, SC -Maj. William Terence Joyce, 79, died after a long struggle with Parkinson's Disease on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Terry was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert and Ruth Joyce in 1939. He earned a Bachelor's degree in journalism from Indiana University and then went on to join the Air Force as a Public Affairs Officer. While stationed in California, he met his future wife of 50 years, Margaret Dunn. He served five tours of duty in Vietnam as a navigator during which he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. After serving his country for over 20 years, Terry began a second career in journalism. He worked 20 years for The Post and Courier in Charleston, South Carolina as a military affairs columnist and local reporter. Terry was a history buff who seemed to know every answer on Jeopardy, and he loved using his private pilot's license to take his children and grandchildren up in the air. Terry was predeceased by his wife, Margaret, and his brother, Richard. He is survived by his children, Sharon Goodman (Eric), William Joyce (Elizabeth); and his five grandchildren, Judith, Aaron, and Sylvia Goodman, and Silas and Anna Dunn Joyce. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary Joan Joyce. There will be a memorial service at 12:00 PM on Jan. 26, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church.
