Dear Phyllis and Girls,
I am a former old friend and Barber who worked with Billy about 8 years ago at Williams Barber Shop. I loved Billy like a big brother and my heart is still so broken over your loss. But, I know one thing for sure.......He loved YOU and those girls more than anything else in this world!!! He was so proud of all of you and Thankful to have you all in his life! Billy never had a harsh word for anyone, always offered a smile and a little joke even in the worst of times!! He was definately a special person who has done his best here on earth to help, love and protect others. He is now an Angel and will continue to watch over and protect you and his children!! My heart and soul goes out to you and your family and wish for nothing but comfort and closure for you. Love and Friendship Always, Melissa (Lil dolly).

I was saddened to hear hear about the loss of these wonderful nine fire fighters who gave their lives for others. A tradedy is especially heartbreaking when you find that you have lost a friend. Billy Hutchinson and I became friends way back in the late 1960s when his father Bill coached us on the Road Runners Football Team at the St. Andrews Parks and Playground. The entire Hutchinson family became dear friends with my family. Over the years, we continued to play ball together and attend what I feel was the greatest high school of all time, Middleton. Although we lost touch over the years, it wasn't until about three years ago that I felt led to organize and plan the first Middleton Razorback Football Team Reunion. Billy was one of the first to come to my mind. I was able to contact him by phone at the fire station. From the very first sound of his voice, I knew that he had not changed one bit over all of those years. Billy was very happy to hear from me and so willing to assist with the reunion in any way possible. I'd call Billy about every week or so during the planning stages and he expressed that he was so excited about the reunion and that he could not wait to see all of our old team mates and coaches. When that night in October rolled around at the Shadow Moss Club House, who was there to meet me and my family first...Billy! As my wife mentioned many times after the reunion, Billy had a beautiful smile and seemed to be a very happy person. Billy was so happy and proud to tell me about his family, his daughters, and his grandson. We were able to reminisce and talk about all of the days of old.

As I read the article about the fire from my office the morning of Wednesday, June 20, I wept. Not only had I lost a friend, but we all lost nine brothers that gave their lives for others. After reading the news, I realized how thankful and glad I was that I took the time three years ago to touch base with Billy. I have the videos, the pictures, and those lasting memories from our Razorback Football Team Reunion, and in those videos, pictures, and the memories is that smile. Thanks Billy for being a friend, and thanks Billy for your wonderful service that you provided to mankind over the years. God bless you my friend!

Our continued thoughts and prayers go out to all of these families. May God be with you all.

There are no words that can fully express all that is felt during this time. However, I truly believe that the Capt would say that he and "the guys" were just doing what needed to be done and he knows that those left behind will keep on doing the same. May God be with you all during this time and every day in the future as you prepare for being with him again in the future.

Formerly of Johns Island and keeping you in our hearts.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The Firefighters Prayer:

"When I'm called to duty God
wherever flames may rage
give me strength to save a life
whatever be its age

Help me to embrace a little child
before it is too late
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate

Enable me to be alert
to hear the weakest shout
and quickly and efficiently
to put the fire out

I want to fill my calling and
to give the best in me
to guard my neighbor and
protect his property

And if according to your will
I have to lose my life
bless with your protecting hand
my children and my wife."

Christy,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hold your head high, you are a strong woman and bring so much to every person that meets you.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the family at this difficult time. I knew Billy through my friend Jessica, who worked with him at the barber shop. There was never a day that went by that I didn't hear her and my brother talk about what a great guy that Billy was. I never had a chance to meet Billy but from this situation, I couldn't agree more. He was a great fireman and an angel sent from God. He was hear to protect our city and he did. He accomplished everything that he was here for. I will be praying for your family and just remember to let God heal your pain and if you hold your arms open to him he will do just that. We love you Billy and miss you.
