William Hoelz Obituary

William Lester Hoelz, Sr. "Bill" SUMMERVILLE - William Lester Hoelz, Sr., "Bill" to most everyone, died peacefully June 9, 2009 surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held Monday, June 15, 2009 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church at 11 o'clock. Family and friends are welcomed to join us after the service in the fellowship hall for refreshments. Memorials may be made to Water Missions International, PO Box 31258, Charleston, SC 29417; Lowcountry Food Bank, 2864 Azalea Drive, Charleston, SC 29405 or to the charity of your choice. Mr. Hoelz was a US Air Force veteran of Korea where he attained the rank of Sergeant. During his Air Force career he was also presented numerous citations and achievements. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Bill worked at the Charleston Air Base as a civil service employee in the maintenance division retiring after 37 years .He was a faithful member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church for 67 years, a lifelong member of the Lutheran Men, a lifetime member of the C & B Fire Department and a little league football and baseball coach. He was a loving spouse, father and grandfather who loved sharing jokes, most of which he learned from his departed friend John Weber. Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Hoelz of Summerville; one daughter, Cyndi Nielsen and husband Eric of Everett, WA; three sons, Dale Howard Hoelz of Summerville, Lt. Com. Dean Lester Hoelz of Norfolk, William Lester Hoelz, Jr. and wife Margie of Summerville; six grandchildren, Peter, Micah and Samuel Nielsen, Zachary, Dylan and Owen Hoelz; one sister, Martha Hohmeier of Painter, VA; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, George and Maebelle Hoelz; son, Craig Ellis Hoelz; and brother, George Hoelz. The family wishes to thank all those who visited Bill during his illness.
