William Hill Obituary

William McAlister Hill Charleston - William "Macky" McAlister Hill, 85, of Ravenel, husband of Mable Audrey Tumbleston Hill, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Thursday, June 16, 2022 from 6 o'clock to 8 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main St., Summerville, SC 29483. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2022 at 10:30 in the morning at Sauldam Baptist Church, 5945 County Line Road, Ravenel, SC 29470. Burial to follow at White Church Cemetery in Ravenel. Macky was born on September 30, 1936 in Charleston, son of the late Walter McAlister and Ethel Thomas Hill of Ravenel. He was a devoted husband of 65 years to Mable whom he had known and adored almost all of his life. He graduated from St. Paul's High School in Hollywood, SC and joined the Naval Reserve. He then served as a magistrate for Charleston County for many years. In his 30s, he enrolled in Baptist College and obtained his Bachelor's Degree. In line with his belief of constant self improvement, he then obtained a law degree from the University of South Carolina Law School. He used the law firm he established in Ravenel to fulfil his commitment to serve all the communities of the area he loved so much. Often he did this work for free or in return for delicious farm produce from his cash poor clients. Macky spent 40 years doing this with integrity, wise cracks and infectIous humor. He also served a Masonic Master for Jacksonboro Lodge 206 AFM. Macky was an avid golfer and a member of Stono Ferry for many years. In addition to his wife, Mable, survivors include four children: Yvonne Hill Herold (Michael) of Daniel Island; William McAlister "Bubba" Hill (Barbara) of Ravenel; George Thomas "Tommy" Hill (Teresa) of Ravenel; and Christina "Chrissy" Marie Hill of London, England. Eleven grandchildren; Jennyffer, Audrey, Mac, Harlan, Brennan, Chase, Chelsa, Jackson, Mason, Alice, and Daphne and three great-grandchildren: Damien, Ashara, and Camilla and many nieces and nephews. Macky was predeceased by a brother; Lewis Ernest Hill and a sister; Marguerite "Sissy" Krauk. The family will accept flowers or donations to the South Carolina branch of the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/sc?form=alz_donate). I have plent of fond memories of golfing with Macky. Some I can tell and most I shouldn't. A fine man who will be greatly missed.

We are so very sorry to hear of the enormous loss of Macky Hill. He was a beloved and cherished husband, Daddy and Granddaddy. I will always very fondly remember the absolute ball of a time we all had with Mable and Macky, and the extended Hill clan, at Chrissy´s wedding celebrations in Charleston. Macky´s infectious smile and natural charm, as a true Southern gentleman, made every guest feel special and completely at home. Our deepest love is with the entire Hill family at this difficult time. We wish you all peace and comfort. Love, Keely, Augusta and Hamish

It was indeed a distinct privilege and always a pleasure to work with this fine gentleman from both the bench and the bar in my career. He was the gold standard for civility and courtesy in negotiation while gently but firmly protecting his clients. Yet always ready for trial with minimal notice. Our profession has lost another one of our best examples.

I am so sorry to learn of Mr. Hill's passing away. I worked in Probate Court for 28 years and came in contact with Mackey and his wife, Mable. He was such a kind man as was his Mable. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family will be in my prayers in the days to come. With love...
