William Greene Obituary

William F. Greene MONCKS CORNER - Master Sergeant William Fleming Greene, US Air Force, Ret., 76, of Moncks Corner, SC, died Saturday morning in a Moncks Corner hospital. His funeral will be 1:00 PM Tuesday afternoon, October 22, 2013, in the First Baptist Church, Moncks Corner. Interment will follow in St. Johns Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites and full military honors. The family will receive friends at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday evening. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 112 E. Main St., Moncks Corner, SC 29461, or to the Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 176 Patriots Point, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. MSGT Greene was born December 3, 1936, in Pageland, SC, a son of Hugh Fleming Greene and Vera Lee Funderburk Greene. He attended the First Baptist Church of Moncks Corner, and was a member of both VFW Post 9509 and Berkeley Lodge #269 AFM. He was also a Shriner. MSGT Greene was a member of the US Air Force Security Force Association and served in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam, where he earned a bronze star while serving in Thailand. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, and hunting, and he was affectionately known to many of his friends as "Bill" or "Sarge". MSGT Greene was preceded in death by three brothers. Surviving are his wife, Helen "Peggy" Douglas Greene; two daughters, Tracey G. Trammell and her husband, Gary, of Cayce, and Angela G. Thornley and her husband, Winky, of Moncks Corner; a sister, Eugenia G. Grant and her husband, Steve, of Latta; two grandchildren, Christine Danielle Thornley and Douglas Wayne Thornley.
