William Frink Obituary

William "Capt. Bunn" Frink, Jr. Mt. Pleasant - William Bunn "Capt. Bunn" Frink, Jr., 86, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 2, 2022. He was born July 16, 1936 in Bladenboro, North Carolina to the late William Bunn Frink Sr. and the late Margaret Cooper Frink. Bunn grew up in Matthews, NC, graduated from East Mecklenburg High School, attended NC State and Clemson Universities and pursued a career in hydraulic engineering, serving a variety of industries along the entire Eastern Seaboard. Bunn relocated his family from Charlotte, NC to the South Carolina Lowcountry in the late 70s, settling on the Isle of Palms in 1980. His many accomplishments included increasing production over 50% at the Georgetown Steel Mill by installing hydraulic drives on the feeding hopper in the late 70s; installing a 120' long conveyor storage bin with overhead traversing, incline, and floor pit conveyors which would feed the Santee River Wool Combing Plant (now Chargeurs Wool (USA), Inc.) in Jamestown for an entire day; installed numerous paint spray booths and associated equipment in various industrial, automotive, woodworking, governmental, and institutional facilities, etc. His love for the local Maritime Community was his true calling and he was instrumental in introducing the use of fluid power systems (Hydraulics) for use in steering systems, winches, drives, and hoists on all types of vessels including many local Shrimp Boats, Long-Liners, Crab Boats, Sail and Power Yachts, Dredges and Support Craft, and Research Vessels for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. Bunn also served as Vice President of Operations for Marcol Dredging Company for many years. Bunn loved boating and exploring the local waterways and held a 100 Ton-Master Coast Guard Captain's License. He served the Shem Creek and Lowcountry shrimping, fishing and boating communities for many years, offering help and advice to anyone in need and would typically "barter" with his clients for a taste of the wide variety of seafood (which he loved) that they would catch in exchange for his services. He is survived by two daughters, Elisabeth "Beth" Nimmons (Stan) of Charleston, and Mary Phillips (Al) of Hoover, AL; son, James Fredrick Frink (Faith) of Mount Pleasant, SC; eight grandchildren, Chris Nimmons, Laura Ketner, Jess Frink, Tori Frink, Elizabeth Taylor, James Phillips, Caitlin Cross, Emma Frink and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and former spouse, Toni Griffin Frink, son, William Bunn ("Bill") Frink III, and brother, James M. Frink. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 22, 2022 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family requests that memorials be made to a SC Wildlife, Fisheries or Conservation charity of your choice.
