William Egan Obituary
AGE: 77 • Wilmington
"Bill", passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 13, 2014.
He was born in Ireland, County Roscommon, to the late Catherine (Moran) and Timothy Egan. At the age of 18, Bill immigrated to the United States and joined the US Air Force shortly thereafter, stationed in Japan and later in Dover. In 1962 he married and settled in Wilmington where he took a position with John Hancock Insurance, retiring after 30 years. He was a member of the Irish Culture Club of Delaware and served on many committees at Holy Rosary Catholic School, where his children attended. Bill enjoy his visits to Atlantic City with his mates, Delaware beaches and back home to Ireland. He found delight in cooking for family and friends.
His wife of 51 years, Janet (Steele) Egan, died in 2013 and Bill is survived by his son, Sean and his wife Pamela of Claymont; a daughter, Sheila Harlam of Wilmington; 3 grandchildren, Tara, Timothy and Victoria Harlam; a sister, Cathy Murray (Willie) of County Roscommon, Ireland and many nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his older sister, Maura Egan.
The family would like to sincerely thank everyone at Vitas Hospice for the wonderful care he received.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 22, at 10:30am, at the MCCRERY & HARRA FUNERAL HOMES, 3924 Concord Pike(Rt 202, south of Silverside Rd), where a viewing will begin at 9:30am. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Wilmington.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Dr., Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.

Bill and I worked togeather at John Hancock in Phila. We rode togeather twice a week for 3 years. We had some fun times togeather. I am sad to hear that Bill died. My condolences to his family.
