William Douglas Obituary

William E. "Ernie" Douglas, Jr. WARM SPRINGS, GA - William Ernest "Ernie" Douglas, Jr., age 82 of Warm Springs, GA, died Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Columbus Hospice. Memorial services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012, at the Chapel of Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester. Mr. Douglas was born November 26, 1930, in Charleston SC, the son of William E. Douglas Sr. and Helen Fortune Douglas. He had worked twenty years for the Internal Revenue Service until 1980 when he was appointed Commissioner of the U.S. Treasury Department's Financial Management Service (FMS). Throughout his career he was the recipient of numerous awards including the 1986 Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership. He was U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Ann Langston and a niece Charlotte Langston. Survivors include his wife, Anne Gibson Douglas of Warm Springs; a son, William E. "Bill" Douglas III of Charleston, SC; his former wife and mother of his son, Winnifred O. Douglas of Charleston, SC; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
