William DeWitt Obituary

William Louis DeWitt COTTAGEVILLE, SC - William Louis DeWitt, 98, of Cottageville, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Monday, March 31, 2025 at his home in Cottageville. His Graveside Service will be held Tuesday, April 8, 2025 in the Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, at 12:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel. William was born December 11, 1926 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Malcolm A. DeWitt and Lizabell Howard DeWitt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Walker DeWitt. William served in the United States Navy during WWII and entered employment with the City of Charleston Fire Department on June 16, 1948 after his honorable discharge from the Navy. His many promotions in the Charleston Fire Department included, third driver, engineer, junior captain, and senior captain. In 1967, he was transferred to inspection In 1993, he was transferred to head training officer, and in 1981, he was transferred to Fire Battalion. William retired from the Fire Department on December 31, 1988. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
