William Dawkins Obituary

DAWKINS, William Mr. William Durham Dawkins, Jr., 64, of Orangeburg, formerly of Ehrhardt, died Saturday at The Regional Medical Center. Graveside funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2005 in Ehrhardt Cemetery, directed by The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Home, Ehrhardt-Bamberg Chapel. Mr. Dawkins was born January 28, 1941 in Sumter, SC and was a son of the late William Durham Dawkins, Sr. and Vera Tidale Dawkins Hazzard. He was a retired carpenter, served his country in the United States Army Reserves and was a member of Ehrhardt Baptist Church. He served two terms on the town council of Ehrhardt, served a short term as Mayor Pro-Tem of Ehrhardt, was the former Chief of the Ehrhardt Fire Department, and was a dedicated volunteer for the elderly. He also was the past president of the Jaycees in Atlanta, GA. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving are: his wife, Marilyn Medlin Dawkins; his children, Michael Durham Dawkins, and Vicky Rispoli, both of Chesapeake, VA, Amy McAlhaney and her husband Claude of Bamberg, Nikki Robinson and her husband Will of Orangeburg and Meg McDaniel and her husband Brian of Orangeburg; brother, Thomas Dawkins of Charleston; and grandchildren, Crystal, Mikey, Matthew, and Christina, all of Virginia, and Amber, Marlee, and Riley of Orangeburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Orangeburg County Relay for Life, c/o Meredith Garris, 1675 Chestnut Street, Orangeburg, SC 29115.
