William Davis Obituary

William Davis ROCK HILL, SC - William Joseph Davis, 91, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023, with his wife, Georgette Davis, by his side. He was born on July 1, 1932, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, the son of William Peter and Marie Stengel Davis. William, better known as Bill to his friends, grew up in Upper Darby, PA and lost his mother, Marie, and baby brother in childbirth when Bill was only 5 years of age. Bill developed a love for horses at a very young age, driving him to work tirelessly and diligently to save every penny from his paper route, until he was able to purchase and care for his own horse. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy during the Korean War to serve as a Mine Sweeping Technician. Bill, after receiving his honorable discharge, attended Temple University where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering and began his career at General Electric. Bill was a dedicated employee and spent his entire 36 -year career at General Electric retiring as an Aerospace Senior Staff Test Engineer. In 1993, after retiring, Bill moved to Garden City, SC, where he enjoyed fishing, golfing, bowling, and spending time with friends. Bill excelled in fishing and bowling, skills he learned from his dad. He especially enjoyed the friends he made with his card group and Tuesday Night Supper Club. Bill met and later married Georgette Harmon Davis on January 2, 2000. They moved to Georgetown where they were welcomed into the fellowship at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. At Duncan he enjoyed volunteering for mission projects and church dinners. Bill and Georgette also enjoyed visiting and spending time with their children and grandchildren. In December 2021, they relocated to Rock Hill, SC, to be closer to family. Bill is survived by his wife, Georgette Davis of Rock Hill, SC; his four children, Michael Davis of Ridley Park, PA; Mark Davis, his wife, Nary Davis, and their twin girls, Genesia and Giavanna Davis, of Huntington Beach, CA; Lynn Hirshman and her three children, Rocco, Cameron, and Nicolette Hirshman of Reading, PA; and Gregg Davis and his daughter, Portia Davis, of Philadelphia, PA. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, at 4:00 PM at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church located at 901 Highmarket Street, Georgetown, SC. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the home of Kevin Jayroe at 914 Highmarket Street. Memorials may be made to Duncan Memorial UMC or Wounded Warriors.
