William Davey Obituary

DAVEY, William William Francis Davey, 88, formerly of Folly Beach, died Friday, January 7, at a local nursing home. He was born September 29, 1916, in Charleston to William Robert Davey and Mary Louise Teague. Mr. Davey was in the Merchant Marines having served during WWII. He was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard, Pipe Fitter Shop #56 and the Medical University of South Carolina. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and a lifetime member of Elks Lodge #242. He was also a member of the Charleston Shamrocks Running Club. Mr. Davey was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte Coleman Davey. He is survived by his son, William F. Davey, Jr., of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Ginger D. Stith of Mt. Pleasant and Sally D. Koleba of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sisters, Mary D. Olix of Albuquerque, NM, and Gertrude D. Osborne of James Island; a very close friend, Mae Fisher of North Charleston; his grandchildren, Allison Gresens of Virginia Beach, VA, Allen Morris of Ansonia, CT, Jason Davey and Brett Davey of Mt. Pleasant, Michelle Stith of Mt. Pleasant, and Ginny Stith of Sunrise, FL; his great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Kelly, Olivia Morris and Noah Davey. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 9, from 6 until 8 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 6:30 p.m., at MCALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth Street. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 10, at Our Lady of Good Counsel, Folly Beach. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Red Cross, 2751 Bull Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201. Condolences may be sent via www.mcalister-smith.com.
