William Cousar Obituary

William Douglas Cousar MANNING - William Douglas Cousar, 77, husband of Eve Blackwell Cousar, died Friday, January 28, 2011, at his home in Manning. Born June 25, 1933, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Nelson Rudolph Cousar and the late Ruth Durden Cousar. He was a graduate of Black River High School, Presbyterian College, and a Navy veteran. He was the owner of Clarendon Insurance Agency and a member of Sardinia Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife; a son, Michael Durden (Carrie) Cousar of Anderson; a daughter, Renee Cousar (Doug) Benefield of Charleston; a brother, Wayne (Gladys) Cousar of Beaufort; and seven grandchildren, Ben Carnell, John Carnell, Eva Benefield, Davis Cousar, Anne Douglas Cousar, Caroline Cousar, and Ella Cate Cousar. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 3, 2011, in the Presbyterian Church at Manning with the Rev. Dr. William J. Holmes officiating. Burial will follow in the Sardinia-Gable Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Gordon Reed and the Rev. Murray Gibbons officiating. Pallbearers will be Jay Drake, Jim Black, Billy Geddings, Sammy Plowden and grandsons, Davis Cousar, Ben Carnell and John Carnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Ollen Rose, Cutter Epps, Bill Blacklege, Joe Dabbs, Bobby Thompson and Dan Ethridge. The family will receive friends following the service in the Sardinia Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. I'll always remember Mr. Cousar as a Southern gentleman and a good father. I have fond memories of spending time with him and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with them now.
