William Coker Obituary

William Clinton Coker, Jr. CHARLESTON - William Clinton Coker, Jr., 81, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Colleen McCoy Coker, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, July 17, 2025. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 27, 2025, at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Born on September 18, 1943, in Asheville, North Carolina, Bill was the son of the late William Clinton Coker, Sr., and Mary Anita Carrigan. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1961, attended Clemson College, and later earned a Bachelor's Degree from Francis Marion College. Bill enjoyed a successful engineering career spanning over five decades in South Carolina. He began his career doing drafting work at Durlach, O'Neil, and Jenkins Engineering Firm in Columbia, SC. Upon relocating to Florence, he joined Wise Construction as a Plumbing Engineer. He later moved to the Charleston area, where he contributed to several significant projects, including the construction of Stratford High School in 1984. He retired from Rast Dallery Engineers in 2013. A man of quiet dedication and unwavering integrity, Bill was deeply committed to serving his community. He was an active member and past president of the Charleston Civitan Club, and also held various offices within ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air-Conditioning Engineers). Bill regularly served as an election poll worker and contributed his financial expertise to church finance committees throughout his life. At St. Joseph Catholic Church, he found joy and purpose volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Bill's passions reflected his love of learning and the outdoors. An Eagle Scout, he remained a devoted camper throughout his life, especially enjoying time at Edisto State Park with Colleen. A voracious reader, Bill was rarely without a book in hand. He was also a devoted fan of Clemson University, a lover of Boston Terriers, and the proud creator of a koi pond in his backyard-a peaceful space he lovingly tended. Bill is survived by his wife, Colleen McCoy Coker; daughter, Carol Ann Coker; son, William Clinton "Clint" Coker III and his wife, Jennifer; stepson, Gabe McCoy and his wife, Danielle; stepdaughter, Sarah McCoy; and his cherished grandchildren: William Schaap II and his fiance;e, Tiffany; Walter Coker; William "Charlie" Coker; Madison "Maddie" McCoy; William McCoy; Dawson McCoy; and Sullivan McCoy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's honor to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which serves the poor and needy in Charleston. Donations can be sent to SVDP CHAPTER C/0 St. Joseph Church, 1695 Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.
