William Henry Campbell WALTERBORO - William Henry Campbell, Ph.D. went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at 9:09 that morning at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. Bill was born in Kansas City, Missouri, September 20, 1923, son of Myers Dallas Campbell, Jr. and Wilma Bessie Morris Campbell who preceded him in death. Bill married the love of his life, Virginia Jane Hargus Campbell, October 8th, 1955. Mrs. Campbell passed away on March 2nd, 1976. Bill continued to reside in the Kansas City area until 1989 when he moved to Charleston, South Carolina to be with family who had transferred for career reasons. The last several years of Dr. Campbell's life were happily spent in nearby Walterboro, South Carolina at Colleton Place Assisted Living. He is survived by: his son William Arthur Campbell, his daughter Constance Lyn Campbell Kern and her husband Jack Curtis Kern and two grandsons, Mitchell William Kern and Mason Weston Kern. Dr. Campbell had one brother, Myers Dallas Campbell III (deceased) and leaves his wife Patricia Maureen Mogg Campbell, a nephew John William Campbell, Ph.D., and his twin brother, a nephew Myers Dallas Campbell IV and his wife EvaMarie Herndon Campbell and their children Hannah Marie Campbell and Myers Dallas Campbell V, a nephew Aaron Matthew Campbell and his wife Danella Dickey Cox Campbell and sons Aaron and Ryan Cox and their families, a niece Patricia Susan Campbell Lippe and her husband Ronald Bruce Lippe and their son Carl Dallas Lippe along with his wife Kaylie Lippe and daughter Savanna Lippe. The families' ancient Scottish Campbell lineage directly descends from the highland's Campbell of Cawdor whose motto is Memor Esto (Be Mindful). All Campbells' are members of the main seat of Clan Campbell of Argyll whose motto is Ne Obliviscaris (Do Not Forget). Academically, Dr. Campbell held a B.A. Liberal Arts & Sciences, University of Kansas 1947; B.S. Geology, Northeast Missouri State Teachers College 1950; M.S. Geology Northeast Missouri State University 1960; Ph.D. in Archaeology, University Americaine Biarritz, France, 1965. Petroleum Geologist. Consulting Geologist & Oil Field Operator various locations 1951-1955. Mining Engineer. Batesville, Arkansas 1955-1957. Vice President A.R. Jones Oil & Operating Company, Kansas City, MO 1957-58. Director President Jones & Campbell, Inc. Shawnee Mission, KS 1958 to 1960. Member Energy Advisory Council & Republican Senatorial Inner Circle, State of Kansas and United States Congressional Advisory Board appointed by Senator Bob Dole. Member Association Professional Geological Scientists (lic.), American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Society of Mining Engineers, Smithsonian Association. Drafted into United States Army 02-23-1943-WWII. Served to Senior Officer U.S. Army, 1943-1946. ETO. 82nd Airborne Paratrooper who jumped at Normandy. Decorated Purple Heart, Silver Star, Air Medal, Bronze Star, Legion of Merit. Reserve Brigadier General U.S. Air Force appointed Washington 1976-78 , Licensed Private Pilot; Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Air Force Association. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary flew missions for Air Station Clearwater/ Tampa/ St.Petersburg. American Legion, VFW. Sigma Chi Fraternity, Phi Sigma Epsilon, Bounders. Episcopalian. Mason, University Club, Exchange, AAU 3 meter diving champion. 1940. 1st place Javelin and Broad Jump KU Relays, 1947. Chairman United Fund, 1957. Board of Directors Gillis Home for Children. A private family memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, May 18, 2013, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. Interment will be at a later date at Maple Hills Cemetery, arranged by the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home, 2100 East Shepard Avenue, Kirksville, Missouri 63501.
