William Bradsher Obituary

William Guthrie "Gus" Bradsher, Jr., 92, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on November 4, 2025. Born on June 5, 1933, in Roxboro, North Carolina, he was the son of the late William Guthrie Bradsher, Sr. and Willie Bradsher.
Gus was drafted into the United States Army on August 18, 1953, and honorably served his country until June 17, 1955, during the Korean War era. Before his service, he attended Wake Forest University, where he played basketball. A true North Carolina native at heart, he never stopped cheering for UNC.
Following his military service, Gus worked with NAVELEX (Naval Electronics Systems Command), where he applied his sharp mind, discipline, and problem-solving nature. His work allowed him to travel. He often talked about his travels and time in the military.
Gus was known for his natural athleticism, quick wit, and what many would agree was the best sense of humor in any room. He loved football, tennis, golf, swimming, and sharing a good meal with people he cared about. He loved playing tennis almost as much as he loved S&S Cafeteria, where he ate nearly every day. He will be remembered for his loyalty, stubborn strength, and the way he quietly showed love through presence, not words.
Gus is survived by his children: Anne Maine Bradsher, Suzy Bradsher, and William Bradsher, III.
He is also survived by his devoted partner, Maxine Cooke, whose love and companionship sustained him in his later years. Gus embraced Maxine's children and grandchildren as his own, and they loved him equally in return.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, from 2PM to 3PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, followed by a funeral service at 3:00PM. Burial will take place immediately afterward at Dorchester Memory Gardens.
