William Bevis Obituary

William Fred Bevis Summerville - William Fred Bevis, Jr., 89, of Summerville, SC, passed away January 20, 2022, at the SC Veterans Victory House in Walterboro, SC. Mr. Bevis was born in Union, SC, in 1932. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1952; qualified and served aboard several US Navy submarines and surface ships; and Retired from the Navy in 1982. He went on to retire from both Cummins Engine Co. and the Charleston County School District. He lived the old saying that idol hands are the devil's workshop. After retiring from the Navy, he became a long-time resident of the Isle of Palms, Charleston, and the Summerville area. However, the Navy was always his passion and his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Fred Bevis, Sr. and Addie Rebecca Miller-Bevis; his wife, Barbara L. Pyles-Bevis; two sons, Steven and David; and six brothers and sisters. He is survived by one son, John Bevis of Jacksonville, FL, and several grandchildren. Arrangements are being made by J. Henry Stuhr, Northwoods Chapel - North Charleston and Mr. Bevis will be interred beside his sister, Martha, by Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel - Spartanburg, SC. No service is currently planned. To the Bevis Family,

On behalf of the Charleston Base SUBVETS and Swamp Fox Chapter SUBVETS WWII, I offer you our sincere condolences on William´s passing. We grieve with you on the death of your loved one and our shipmate. The SUBVETS will have your family in our thoughts and prayers. There is no expiration date on the back of our
dolphins and William, who earned his 'fish' when he qualified in submarines , will always be remembered as a "Brother of the Phin" and a great Patriot. BRAVO ZULU SHIPMATE!!

Dear family and friends of William´s,
On behalf of the United States Submarine Veterans, we offer our sincere condolences at William´s passing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are always saddened whenever a fellow "Bubblehead" leaves on Eternal Patrol. He served with honor on several vessels including the submarine USS Odax SS-484.
To our "Brother-of-the-Phin" we say, "Sailor, rest your oar. We have the watch. Fair Winds and Following Seas." Thank you for your service to our country.
