Willard Miles Obituary

MILES, Willard KINGSTREE - Mr. Willard Laverne Miles, 79, died Wednesday in a Florence hospital. Mr. Miles was born in Florence County, a son of Lennie Poston Miles and Cleland Miles. He attended Florence county schools. Mr. Miles was a retired businessman, he was the former owner of W. L. Miles Grocery and a farmer. He was a member of Kingstree First Baptist Church, the Faulkner Sunday School Class, and Baptist Brotherhood. Mr. Miles was an Army Veteran, having served in the European Theater during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, and the Masons. He was an accomplished musician and was a member of the Southeastern Bluegrass Association. Survivors include his wife, Ina Smith Miles of Cades; one son, Alton L. Miles of Cades; one daughter, Judith Watford of Florence; four brothers, C. L. Miles of Lake City, James Miles and Kenneth Miles of Scranton; and J.W. Miles of Avondale, Arizona; one sister, Doris Duke of Scranton; and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday in the Williamsburg Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow in the Smith Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
